The most common from of generating primary data is through surveys. Yet those tasked with undertaking such surveys are often faced with fundamental questions such as:
Who do I survey and from what areas?
How many do I need to survey to obtain meaningful results?
What analysis do I need to undertake once I complete my survey?
How do I go about designing the most appropriate survey instrument?
This introductory workshop will allow those undertaking surveys to address these issues and to undertake surveys which will yield statistically valid and reliable results. In addition, basic questionnaire design and analysis will be examined as well as using a common spreadsheet program (Excel) to undertake many of the analyses needed.
This workshop equips participants to:
Understand fundamental survey methodology and to distinguish between the differing types of errors that arise when conducting surveys.
Understand the advantages / disadvantages of personal interviews, telephone interviews, self administered surveys such as mail & internet and the appropriateness of using each method in particular situations
Distinguish between reliability, validity and consistency in survey results
Be conversant with fundamentals of questionnaire design
Construct an appropriate sampling frame and sample design (i.e. determine who you will need to survey, where you need to survey people, how many people you need to survey and what analysis is possible on your survey results)
